NY/NJ Family Australian Honeymoon

 
Our Honeymoon , August 1997

Catherine & myself ( Rich ) traveled from NY to Australia for our honeymoon. The trip from NY to Los Angles was 6 hours and from LA to Sydney was another 14 hours! We spent 3 weeks there and still didn't see all that we wanted to see!

We put together this web page so that others might be better able to plan their to Australia. If you enjoy this site let us know! I have also compiled a list of useful links.

Sydney Alt

How could you go to Austalia and not visit Sydney & its opera house. We also visited the Amp Tower Centerpoint. We bought a ticket on the Explorer bus and used it to travel around Sydney. It was very convenient. We only spent 1 day there. We thought that was enough. We are used to New York City.

Marae B&B

Our stay at Marae was one of the hightlights of our trip. Andy Morris was a great host. We met her world famous bird "Cactus" and her dog "Chook". Also, ask about the frogs! She introduced us to custard apples. The B&B is located in the middle of sugar cane fields. Its location is an idea spot to travel to Mossman George and Port Douglas. We also enjoyed Port Douglas. It was not as "touristy" as Cairns.

We also took a trip on the WaveLength snorkeling crusie. We had to wait 3 days for a reservation!!! Book early. It was a little cold to go snorkeling. We had to use wet suits.

Daintree

This is downtown Daintree. Not much to see.

Outback

Sahara Tours

We signed up for Sahara's camping tour. We took the 3 day package ( Ayers/Olgas/Kings Canynon ). It was ok. We spent much of the time traveling in the bus. We also did not hike Ayers rock since it is considered sacred ground to the local Aboragines. The sunrise and sunset is also very hokey. Many tour busses showed up and people poured out. I would not recommend going here. Go visit the US's Grand Canynon or Zion National Park. If you are in Australia, concentrate more on Queensland, Victoria, New Zeland.

Brisbane

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

In Brisbane, we stayed with some friends. We took a trip on a boat to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. While there we could hold koala's and feed kangroos. If you are in the area, this is a must see. Also, look for the Kookaburra bird ( Alt, II ) . Its call is quite distinctive.
